PFAS on powdered milk and cereal-based baby food preparations

Limit of quantification update

Contamination of food with PFAS is mainly the result of bioaccumulation in aquatic and terrestrial food chains and also the use of PFASs-containing food contact materials is likely to contribute to human exposure to PFASs.

After several studies EFSA concluded that PFOS, PFOA, PFNA and PFHxS can cause developmental effects and may have adverse effects on serum cholesterol, the liver and the immune system and birth weight.

Regarding to the monitoring of PFASs in food Neotron has implemented the quantification limits of the 4 mandatory PFASs (PFOA, PFOS, PFNA, PFHxS) lowering them from 0.050 to 0.010 ug /kg on the following matrices: powdered milk and cereal-based baby food preparations.
