Cotecna acquires CoalLab in South Africa

Cotecna is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of CoalLab Pty Ltd based in Middleburg (province of Mpumalanga in South Africa). A leader in South Africa in the field of coal and other materials testing, sampling systems design and management, and consulting, CoalLab operates several on-site sampling and testing facilities, in addition to its own laboratory in Middleburg. The company has 100 staff.

With the integration of CoalLab we enhance our capabilities to service customers in the coal and minerals industry globally. It strengthens our presence in South Africa in particular and on the African continent where we see significant growth potential.

CoalLab was co-founded in 2007 by Mr. Johan Bekker and his wife. Johan is also Chairman of South Africa’s National Steering Committee on Solid Mineral Fuels and of ISO’s TC27 Solid Mineral Fuels committee and he will remain Managing Director of CoalLab.
